State Regulations
The Following are the Fisheries Orders adopted at the October 11-12, 2001 Natural Resources Commission Meeting. These Fisheries Orders DO NOT take effect until April 1, 2002.

STATEWIDE TROUT, SALMON, WHITEFISH AND LAKE HERRING REGULATIONS:


SECTION III: Trout and SalmonGreat Lakes and Connecting Waters

Size and possession limits for trout and salmon:

Minimum size limit shall be 10 except as follows:

BROOK TROUT:
On Lake Superior within 4.5 miles of Isle Royale (Isle Royale National Park waters), the minimum size limit for brook trout is 18.
LAKE TROUT:
a) The minimum size is 24 inches in that portion of Lake Michigan Bounded by a line running due south from Point De Tour, Delta County, to its intersection with Michigan/Wisconsin boundary, thence easterly and southerly along this boundary to its intersection with the 45 th parallel latitude line, thence due east along the 45 th parallel latitude line to its point of intersection with the land in Leelanau County,
thence northerly and easterly along the shoreline to the most northern point of the peninsula, thence due east to its point of intersection with the land in Antrim County.
b) The minimum size is 20 inches in that portion of Lake Michigan (commonly known as Grand Traverse Bay, East Bay and West Bay), south of a line running due east from the northern most point of mainland Leelanau County, to its intersection with
the land in Antrim County.
c) The minimum size is 22 inches in that portion of Lake Michigan, bounded by a line beginning on the western shore of Leelanau County at 45 degrees 0 minutes north latitude, then running due west along the 45 degrees 0 minutes north latitude line to
its intersection with the Michigan/Wisconsin border, then southward along said border to its intersection with the 44 degrees 30 minutes north latitude line, then
eastward along the 44 degrees 30 minutes north latitude line to its intersection with the land in the NE ¼ of Section 10, T24N, R16W in Manistee County near Arcadia, then northward along the shore to the point of beginning.
POSSESSION LIMIT:
(a) 5 in any combination but no more than 3 of any one species (see pink salmon in (b) and (c) below) and with the following limitations on lake trout, splake and brook trout:
(i) Lake Superior: only one brook trout within 4.5 miles of Isle Royale (Isle
Royale National Park waters) may be possessed;
(ii) Lake Michigan: no more than 2 lake trout or splake may be possessed;
(iii) Lake Huron: no more than 3 lake trout or splake may be possessed.
(b) up to 5 pink salmon may be possessed.
(c) a bonus of 5 pink salmon may be taken from the St. Marys River from the last Saturday in April through September 30
